My sister Caragh O’Brien is an author of young adult novels. Her newest book The Vault of Dreamers published by Roaring Brook Press is the first installment of a trilogy that hit the shelves earlier this year. This summer she called me to mention that she needed a new author photo and could I do it at the family reunion in July.

“Of course!”, I said. Here is the result;

Steven and Laurel came to Stillwater to celebrate their anniversary. They had a great time. They stayed downtown at the Water Street InnWater Street Inn, Restaurant & Pub – Stillwater, Minnesota and had a dinner at the Lake Elmo InnThe Historic Lake Elmo Inn and Event Center | Food, Dining, Banquets, Restaurant, Catering, Dinner, Event Center both of which are fabulous businesses. They have a beautiful relationship that shows in their gentle way with each other and the clear harmony and respect that they show each other and those in their presence. I was touched by the way they spoke to each other and listened to the thinking of their spouse. Please enjoy looking at these photos and if you are a friend of Steve and Laurel, please leave a comment and a vote  for your favorite image.

Remember the fall? After the great storm it’s fading away in our memories. SO I thought that I would bring you back some happy shots of  Caitlin playing in the leaves. I love this sort of picture. Its fun, its colorful, and it fits Caitlin’s personality to a T. I do this every fall for about a week. I don’t know if it is Senior Photography with capital letters but it sure looks great and I love to do it. The children in Caitlin’s picture were just walking buy and I asked them if they wanted to be in a picture. Well if anyone knows them I would love to hear from them. Their presence in these photos was awesome and spontaneous. They did it and then just continued on their walk with their families! Thank you so much for joining in.

Jameson

Jameson is a skateboarder and a drummer so  I knew that I wasn’t going to be taking pretty pictures  in the flowers with him! I am not sure that Jameson  was all that  thrilled to be heading downtown to  do his senior  pictures but  he was a gentleman throughout.

We  headed up to the skateboard park to do a few shots and then returned  to Stillwater’s downtown to finish the shoot.  By the end of the skateboarding pictures we knew that we were going to  have some incredible images to chose  from. And we do! Here we go…

Friday night I had the privilege of photographing Project Opera’s dress rehearsal. Project Opera is The Minnesota Opera’s young musicians program for singers. About 50 students performed scenes from several operas including the Magic Flute by Mozart. The singing was extraordinary and the acting that I witnessed belied their ages. These young singers can get it done! Here are some photos but the entire body of my pictures can be seen on my website in the slideshows section under Project Opera (password Salome)

I was so delighted with what I saw that I am going to have my own daughter look into this. Thank you so much!

Cub Davis

Cub Davis will be a Stillwater legend some day. Right now he is the husband of Judy Davis, the father of four children and the grandfather of thirteen. Way back in my childhood he bagged groceries at Hooleys market for Mark Hooley in a wonderful grocery store by the St. Croix river and an old train that I used to climb on. My folks used to stop there on the way up to our summer cabin in Marine on St Croix. We had no idea that Cub would be one of the founders of Cub Foods and a visionary in the field of  grocery store development. He was just the nice guy then that he is today. Here is the photo that I took yesterday of him that will be on a plaque Stillwater Area High School will present to him in honor of his achievements as a distinguished Stillwater alumnus.
